The Cork has been popped!

Happy New Year 2012!!!!!!!!

The ASLC had a staff holiday party on the 30th this year. Dress code: bling. Sara and I visited the amazing Ray's Resuable for some hot party dresses for this event and scored. Take a look at our outfits for this party! The sea lions loved them- they were swimming and following us dancing in front of the glass and especially liked jamming to Michael Jackson's Billy Jean!

Let it be known that Kira outglitzed Sara Ann (by only a few additional sequins)
and won the $10 best dressed prize!! (this picture looks like it was taken in the 70's)

On New Year's Eve we went snowshoeing through an ice luminary lit hike in the forest! It was magical, perfect weather, and we learned that Alaskans know how to spice hot cider and make hot chocolate better than anyone else.

Also, these Alaskan moose that we keep hearing about finally showed up on the final day of 2011! A cow and her yearling were hanging out for most of the day near our apartment so we got some quality photo time with them! Later, Sara even saw some bulls!!

BUT THEN! The most exciting of the exciting! On the first (and no doubt best) Monday of 2012, we were able to go with Tim and a few other volunteers on the 3.5 hour drive to Homer on the other side of the Kenai Pennisula to release our darling Corky the sea otter (see old post below). We have been feeding him at every chance we could get so it was amazing that we were able to go and see him off after a full recovery! Thanks Tim! Sweet Corky had a good ride over on his bed of ice (he can get too hot in the back of a truck with all of that fur... even in -10 degree weather) and was antsy to get out of his cage when we arrived on the beach!! Watch the video of the release of our Corky:

Doing some last minute birding!
